The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and Penal Reform International (PRI) is excited to announce that Colorado Department of Correction Executive Director Rick Raemisch will be our special guest speaker at our upcoming meeting being held in Warsaw, Poland. The meeting will be held April 19th and 20th 2017 and will focus on Implementation of the Revised UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (Nelson Mandela Rules).
Rick Raemisch has been Executive Director of Colorado Department of Corrections since July 2013. Mr. Raemischs career spans three decades as a Deputy Sheriff, Prosecutor, Elected Sheriff and Head of The Wisconsins Department of Corrections, where he was responsible for more than 22,000 inmates, more than 73,000 probation and/or parolees and approximately 1,000 juveniles in institutions or on supervision. He is a nationally recognized expert in corrections and has a very diverse background in criminal justice.
The regional consultation will bring together members of prison administrations and prison staff, as well as representatives of relevant the Ministry (Interior, Justice or Corrections) from the US, Canada and Western European countries. It aims to gather information on what questions arise and which challenges practitioners anticipate when implementing the revised Rules.
